turnstile,

Turnstile, from hardcore gigs to a trendy band.

Turnstile is now a global phenomenon.

Turnistile started in 2007 in Baltimore as a hardcore band.

In 2011 the band dropped out the EP Pressure to Succeed  energetic and aggressive hardcore sound, though some critics note a lack of variation within the songs. The EP is praised for its raw intensity and as an excellent example of the band's early hardcore roots before their later stylistic expansions.

In 2013 they realised a new EP called Step 2 Rhythm and they started playing a lot of shows at big gigs around, they have become very famous in the underground.

At this time in 2015 the band was able to drop and intire album called Nonstop Feeling they mixed hardcore punk music with a new formula “the Turstile formula”, they are danceable, aggressive, they make people jumping a lot.

In 2018 Turnstile signed to Roadrunner Records the heavy music arm or Warner Music and now we can say, an hardcore band signed to a major. What hardcore fans hate in general? majors, but all the Turnstile fans community remained there for the music and their impressive sound.

It's time for big arena shows and more than hardcore music and essence.

Turnstile new era is started, in 2021 with big money behind the production Turnstile started to be not categorized as an hardcore band anymore. They played at Coachella  the super trendy and commercial festival. Coachella is an annual music and arts festival held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California, in the Coachella Valley in the Colorado Desert. It was co-founded by Paul Tollett and Rick Van Santen in 1999, and is organized by Goldenvoice, a subsidiary of AEG Presents. Turnstile is now a global  phenomenon..

Turnstile still active in the hardcore community, at the same time they were nominated for the Grammys. Turnstile, the Baltimore-based band, held a free charity concert on May 11, 2025, at Wyman Park Dell to benefit Health Care for the Homeless, raising thousands of dollars. The event, which coincided with the release of their album Never Enough, drew over 10,000 fans who showed support for the cause and the band's new music.

Ok, it's today, Turnstile released Never Enough on June 6, 2025, through Roadrunner Records.

This album mark another step into the new Turnstile era.

The band continue to evolve with Never Enough, an album that embraces sounds from the 80s and 90s, including jangle pop, ambient, wind instruments, synths and increasingly sparse hardcore moments.

If I think of them as artists, I understand and appreciate the fact that they have no limits and are truly talented. However, if we consider the type of music Turnstile plays today, it can be defined as pop rock.

Never Enough is one of those ‘different’ albums that you don't expect from one of your favourite bands, especially if you've been a fan since Pressure To Succeed. Only a few bands manage to change genre over the course of their discography, some like King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard succeed in doing so, and perhaps Turnstile will also be considered in this light.

Turnstile aren't widely considered bad within the hardcore community, but some longtime fans express disappointment, not out of dislike, but because the band's mainstream success and genre-bending sound are seen by some as a departure from hardcore's niche, DIY roots and raw aggression. While the band maintains hardcore's spirit of community and inclusivity, their incorporation of melodic, pop, and funk elements attracts a wider audience, creating a tension between the genre's traditional ethos and the band's artistic growth.

Another aspect is: how trendy is this band?

Whether they are good or not, attractive, interesting or uninteresting, Turnstile are the band of the moment and are certainly in vogue.

If recently the focus was on Viagra Boys, Idles, Thee Oh Sees and more recently on Fontaines D.C., now it is Turnstile's turn. Who will be next?
